Question: On May 11 I had a left back tooth extracted. I had little discomfort after the extraction. But on XXXXXXX 1st I started having severe pain to left base of tongue and ear pain. I called my dentist and he said it was not related to the extraction. What could it be? I'm in a lot of pain and difficulty eating.

Detailed Answer:
Hii. Welcome to the healthcare services. Sometimes dental extraction can stimulate adjacent nerve and cause similar pain in the base of tongue and ear pain. So visit an Ent surgeon and get an endoscopy of the larynx done where he can see about the details of the base of tongue and some part of the alveolar process. You can get a clear picture if there is any injury or infection related to the base of the tongue which is causing similar pain. In the meantime do betadine gargle. Take paracetamol tablet to decrease pain. But in my opinion this pain is due to any infection related to the extraction of the tooth. You start an antibiotic augmentin for a week and the pain will subside if there is any inflammation or infection. Please review if you have any queries.
