default
Posted on Tue, 2 Oct 2018
Question: On my right knee I have numbness maybe around, above, behind the knee. There is a tingling sensation that seems to around or feels like a nerve in my right hip. There is also stiffness with my right knee at the end of my range of motion bringing my foot closer to my butt. Sitting for longer periods of time seems to make it worse. I have also been having back problems as well. These have been going on for the past 3-4 months. The back problems has finally gone away with exercise of the back.

Brief Answer:
different possible causes

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Numbness and tingling re most commonly related to issues with the nerves that supply the re.
This is called neuropathy.

It can be temporary or permanent and there re different possible causes.

Some of the most common causes re- (1)trauma- eg arthritis or other changes of the spine can affect the nerves that travel out of the spine to supply the limbs

The nerves that supply the thigh and knee originate from the lower back.

An x ray of the lower back would determine if there re any structural problems that can cause an issue

(2)lo levels of vitamin b12 or folate
(3)diabetes
(4)liver or kidney disease
(5)side effect of medication
(6)exposure to toxins
(7)neurological conditions such s ms or stroke
(8)conditions such s R or SLE

In some persons the cause is not found.

Arthritis or issues with the muscles can cause stiffness which can be worse after prolonged periods of not moving. Imaging such as x ray of the knee would also be helpful here. If there is arthritis then exercises to strengthen the muscles round the knee and pain meds, can be used, if needed.

The specific treatment would depend on the exact cause but there are medications that can help with neuropathy such as amitriptyline, tegretol, lyric, gabapentin etc

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
