How Can We Figure Out If Digestion Is Waking Her Up?
Question: Our baby is 6 months old (born at 36 weeks). She doesn't sleep very well at night and keeps getting up every 45 to 60 mins. We are unable to figure out if this is due to digestive issues or room temperature. We have tried several things around adjusting room temperature, but nothing has worked consistently well. How can we figure out if digestion is waking her up? Or, could it be something else. On the whole, she is a happy, active baby and everything else is in accordance with the milestones for her age
Brief Answer:
Could be hunger or colic pain
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
From your history and description as long as the baby is active and playful with good development no need to worry . Nothing major .
It could be either due to hunger at night or colic pain which is coming in babies at this age.
I would suggest
1. Start giving more weaning foods like gruel, baby cereals, boiled vegetables and fruits to help her stomach get full . Continue breast feeding on demand
2. Try colicaid drops . I usually suggest around 0.5 ml at night if the baby is crying continuously.
Ensure frequent feeds and good urine output .
Wishing speedy recovery

Thanks for your response Doctor. She doesn't cry continuously. As soon as we pick her up, she goes back to sleep. We carry for 10-15 mins and then put her back in cradle. She wakes up 45-60 mins later and the cycle continues. So, it doesn't seem like Colic. She's just completed 6 months. So, we'll be visiting her paediatrician this week. So, we'll consult about starting semi-solids and then start.
Brief Answer:
Start semisolids
Detailed Answer:
If crying not continuously may not be colic. Sure it is better to give her semisolids as advised before after consulting your regular Pediatrician
