Brief Answer:
Types and Names of Orthoses that can be used for BSS

Detailed Answer:
The following bracing solutions in CONJUNCTION WITH PHYSIOTHERAPY PROGRAMS can improve and reduce the burden of hyperflexion of the spine leading to a LUMBAR KYPHOSIS and other postural and systemic problems due to the altered postural stability of the spinal column.

1. THORACO-PELVIC ANTERIOR DISTRACTION orthosis (TPAD)- Considered the most specific and efficient type of brace for bent spine syndrome

Other braces that can be used with varying degrees of success but not considered specific for BSS but will work for forms of KYPHOSIS include:

2. Thoraco Lumbar Sacral Orthosis (TLSO)- Not specific for BSS but will correct kyphosis and some hyperflexion if in the thoracic spine.

3. Hyper-X TLSO Jewett Hyperextension Back Brace- Again, mainly used for compression fractures and kyphoses of the back not specifically defined as the BSS.

4. JIAHE Leather Lumbar Back Support Belt Spine Correction Brace- This is probably the LEAST specific of the ones I've listed but is also the most inexpensive and made of LEATHER which is important for stability. However, it does not actively produce HYPERTENSION of the thoracic spine which the other braces do perform and which are necessary to fully correct the defect in BSS. Still some patients will use this as an inexpensive stop gap measure until they see whether or methods/approaches have more effect before wanting to spend the money on a TPAD brace.

I know we've had discussions in the past regarding your condition. Please keep in mind the use of a back brace is a very good thought but that the brace alone is not going to be the overall best solution without knowing as much as possible the underlying MECHANISM for how your BSS or CAMPTOCORMIA has come about. Is it due to degeneration of the paraspinal muscles of the back due to some form of delayed adult onset myopathy or muscular dystrophy, could it be something as exotic as a mitochondrial defect causing what is known as mitochondrial myopathy, could it be late adult onset of a syndrome of REGIONAL DYSTONIA without or without parkinsonian involvement?

If the mechanism of the BSS can be known then, a more comprehensive approach to its treatment INCLUDING SENSIBLE back bracing PLUS physiotherapy can be implemented which will have more chance at success as opposed to either just back bracing. I'm pretty sure I recall your saying that you were previously diagnosed as having Parkinson's by a neurologist (Methinks!) and so perhaps all these avenues have already been looked at...but in case not, you'll want to keep this information in mind.

If I've provided useful or helpful information to your question could you do me the utmost of favors by CLOSING THE QUERY along with a few positive words of feedback and maybe even a 5-star rating if you feel it is deserving when you have a moment?

I am definitely interested in getting updated information on your condition if you'd care to drop me a line at www.bit.ly/drdariushsaghafi and let me know how things are going.

You can always reach me at the above address for this and other questions. I wish you the best with everything and hope our discussion has aided in your understanding of a few concepts related to your concerns.
