Hello!

Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service!

Regarding your concern, I would like to explain that palpitations may be frequent symptoms during pregnancy

This is due to several factors, like body fluids retention during pregnancy leading to sinus tachycardia; diaphragm elevation from increased abdominal volume leading to breathing difficulty decreased lungs volume capacity with subsequent tachypnea and tachycardia; anemia due to hemodilution.

All the above reasons are physiological consequences during pregnancy and you shouldn't worry about it.

But, in case palpitations are out of proportion despite the presence of the above factors, then further clinical investigations are necessary.

An ECG and in necessary an ambulatory ECG monitoring test (Holter) would be necessary to exclude possible cardiac arrhythmia.

In addition, cardiac ultrasound test is advised as well.

Hope to have been helpful to you!

In case of any further questions, feel free to ask me again.
