Question: Patient has persistent migraines. 2 days ago she collapsed and was resuscitated after about 20 minutes. There are proposals to go for CT scan.
What could be the cause of this? What is the best treatment to stop these migraines?

I understand your concern and would explain that it is important to differentiate between the possible cause underlying loss of consciousness: epilepsy seizures or low blood pressure due to the pain.

For this reason, I agree with her Doctor on the recommendation for a brain CT scan in order to exclude a possible tumour. A brain MRI may be necessary in order to give more information on the brain vessels and any possible infection.

It is also important performing an EEG in case epilepsy seizures is suspected.

Regarding treatment, it depends on the above test reports.

If all the above tests result normal, I would recommend starting topiramate to help improve her situation .This drug is very effective in preventing migraine attacks.
