Pediatrician Question: My 11 Month Old Grandson Lives In Japan
Question: Pediatrician question:
My 11 month old grandson lives in Japan and has a severe diaper rash that has now started peeling and looks almost like a burn. Diaper cream seems to have made it worse.
With all the Covid restrictions, you can't visit a Pediatrician very easily. How do we treat this?

Brief Answer:
Try grade 1 or 2 mild steroids
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
I understand that diaper rash creams are not working
I would suggest
1. Topical grade one or two steroid creams available as OTC in Japan containing Desonide or prednisone . Few examples I tried to find are pure quick s from Taiho.
2. Also use topical antiseptic like fusidic acid to prevent any bacterial superinfection as the skin is peeling .
Both these ointments can be used in small quantities twice daily for a week to see the response.
However if not improving try consulting nearby hospital for direct prescription
