Question: Hi, From last 3-4 months my dad has been getting rashes like this on his skin . On and off. Its very itchy. While he itches he becomes red. We have tried to give him Cetrizine , Fexofenadine , All Day , Fusidin, Betnovet N, Panderm etc but this keeps on coming after 2 weeks of remissioin. Although its on a small extent now. Please advice on the root cause. Also can he take his Covid vaccine with this rash ?
6 months back we had his SGPT SGOT Createnine CBC Heart check Cholestrol levels checked. All normal. We do his BP and Sugar tests every week at home. BP of 110/70 and Random Sugar of 98 - 102 in average which is very normal.

Brief Answer:
Use moisturizer

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query and photographs.
It looks like senile xerosis. With age skin looses water and becomes dry easily. This dryness causes itch.
He needs to apply a lot of moisturizer or virgin coconut oil.
The best time to apply is just after bath after drying body with a soft towel so as to trap a layer of water between oil and skin.
This will help in retaining moisture for a long period of time.
Tablet avil will be much better as it will control itch as well as induce sleep.
He can also apply desonide lotion twice daily for 15 days for faster recovery.
While taking bath he can use a syndet ( Zyndet bar) Instead of soap.
This should help.
Let me know if you have any other doubts.
Thank you.
