Please Discuss Neuro Related Bladder I Am 58 Yo Female
Question: Please discuss Neuro Related Bladder
I am 58 yo female S/P Rt Temporal AVM Resection 15 yrs ago and have been incontinent since the surgery--partially. I have no sensation to tell me that I need to empty my bladder. I have been evaluated by urology and all tests are negative and I have tried all the new meds that have come out and even some oldie goldies without success. Now a disabled nurse, how common is it??

Brief Answer:
Neurogenic bladder is not seen after brain surgery.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Ask a doctor forum.
I can understand your concern.
Neurogenic bladder is seen after spinal cord pathology.
It is not seen after brain surgery.
Till date there is no case reported like this.
Temporal AVM (Atriovenous Malformation) resection can cause complications like seizures or memory loss or some behavior changes.
But it can not cause neurogenic bladder. So neurogenic bladder after temporal AVM resection is not at all common, you might be the first case.
Do you have any spinal cord pathology or trauma or surgery?
I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

Aside from T 7-8, L4-5, S1 nursing injuries, no. I have seen 3 urologists who keep wanting to blame it on my head. I myself have 18 years ER Nursing and 3 years NICU experience. I have not seen it either....
Thanks very much. Have a good night.
