Please Review Attached CBC Report Of My Baby
Question: Please review attached CBC Report of my baby
in addition to CBC report, I've follow-up question - My baby's stool has been light black in color for the past two days. It was solid, not liquid, and after washing the cloth, the stool turned white and light black in water. Is this something I should be concerned about, and is it normal for newborns?
Brief Answer:
Low haemoglobin levels seems to be the primary concerning factor
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I have checked the reports. Here are my observations:
* The haemoglobin levels are significantly low and therefore iron supplementation is needed. The cause needs to be looked into. There are associated parameters which all indicate the same.
* Although the WBC count seems out of range, it is to be considered normal for age. Does not seem concerning.
* The raised platelet count is likely to indicate an inflammatory reaction ongoing somewhere in the body. Needs clinical correlation.
Regarding the other questions:
* The stool colour and frequency are not something concerning for age, provided that the child is exclusively breastfed. Problems are likely only if the child is top-fed, in that case, shifting back to exclusive breastfeeding is the solution.
