Hello, and welcome to 'Ask A Doctor'

Thanks for posting your query.

Stomach pain or cramps after sex can be due many reasons.
1) It can be due to constipation or gas. Irritable bowel syndrome can also cause this kind of symptoms.
2) Sometimes an orgasm causes uterine contractions, which can lead to stomach ache post-sex. When it is about pain due to orgasm, you cannot do much about it. It will automatically get better once your muscles are relaxed.
3) Another reason responsible for this is being in the period of ovulation. Deep penetration can cause pain if there is fluid in the pelvic area, which can be caused due to the release of the egg.
4) Sometimes sperm itself can act as an irritant to the uterus, the uterus can react when in contact with sperms. This can result in uterine contractions, which in turn causes stomach pain and cramps.
5) There is also a high possibility that during intercourse, along with sperms, bacteria may also enter the urethra. This can also cause irritation and stomach pain.

So it is very difficult to give treatment for this online. Normally, pain after sex goes away on its own in very less time. If the situation persists and she is experiencing severe pain, visiting a gynecologist personally is the best.

Some precautions that can be taken to prevent bacteria and relieving your uterus from sperm irritation is to
- Taking a shower after sex. This will wash away any remnants of sperm.
- You can prevent this discomfort also by urinating. Urinating will help in flushing out bacteria from the urethra.

For symptomatic pain relief she can take tab. buscogest SOS/ as and when required post coitus or before to prevent pain. I would suggest she visits a gnaecologist and gets a full list of blood tests and examination to rule out infections.

I hope this helps. Please feel free to discuss further.

Hi,

I saw the reports you have shared. She is having urinary bladder infection and some infection in small intestine. That is why she is having stomach pain. It is better to start on antibiotics. It will require a long term treatment for 2 to 4 weeks. It is best to visit a urologist for detailed examination, prescription and follow up

I hope this helps. Please feel free to discuss further.
