Pregnant. Frequent Urination. Pus Cells In Urine. Prescribed With Ceftum. Treatment?
Question: My wife is in her 8 month (32 weeks) of pregnancy.She has this frequent urination problem especially after meals (lunch/dinner) every 2-3 mins.she gets this feeling of going for urination very badly but it is only some drops of urine that comes,she has no burning sensation and there is no white discharge except in the early morning sometimes.Though she has an everyday water intake of 3 litres as well as coconut water every alternate day.We had her urine test done ,all was under control except the pus cells( Leucocytes)was in 20-25 hpf.The Doc recommended Ceftum 250 and lots water intake.But there is no improvement.What can be done in this case as she finds it difficult to rest due to the uncomfortable sleeping position and continous urine frequency.

Presence of 20-25 pus cells /hpf is indicative of a urinary infection. Since her symptoms have not been relieved after taking antibiotic like ceftum, it indicates a resistant urinary infection.
She needs to have a urine culture to detect the causative organism and the antibiotic most suitable for her treatment.
Such infections sometimes require combination of medications for a prolonged period until fully cured.
Some measures which can help your wife:
1)Drink lots of water.
2)Empty the bladder completely as soon as she feels the urge to urinate.
3)Pass the urine before and after intercourse.
4)Wear loose cotton undergarments and wash them in antiseptic solution.
5)Take Cranberry juice as it inhibits bladder infection.
6)Take Vitamin C tablet Celin once a day for few months. It will help in increasing her immunity.
Consider visiting a Urologist for evaluation and mention about the recurrent infection. Also consider doing a USG scan to rule out any kidney infection.
Please do practice safe sexual practices like using a condom, so that both you and your partner do not co-infect each other.
