Pregnant. Suffering From Sore Throat And Cough. Have Tendency To Develop Pharyngitis. What Medicine Is Safe?

Question: Hello,
I am 13 weeks pregnant. For past 1/2 days, I have been suffering from a sore throat and from today, I am having cough too. I have a tendency to have pharyngitis and usually take antibiotics like Loxof.
But I am not sure what to do now in this stage.
Please could you suggest:
1. Are lozenges like Strenpsils safe during pregnancy?
2. Can I take Cetrizine? I usually take one Doxinate tablet for nausea every day evening. I have read somewhere it is not safe to use Cetrizine with Doxinate. Is it true?
3. Should I see a general physician for this? Can they suggest something?
4. Lastly, can cough be bad for the baby? It causes jerks in the tummy area. Can this affect the baby anyhow?
Please suggest.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your query.
I have read your query & I understand your concerns.
Following is my reply:
1) Lozenges are safe in pregnancy.
2) Dont take too much of doxinate and daily. Take it if you really feel too much nausea or vomitting. Cetrizine to be taken at least 4 hours gap from doxinate.
3) You can see physician or an ENT surgeon. They will see and diagnose type of infection.
4) Cough does not affect baby too much. Relax.
5) Do warm salt water gargling morning and night, and have ginger mixed milk.
I hope I answered your query. I will be available for any followup queries you have.

Thank you Doctor for your response. I will follow home remedies.
I have severe nausea daily, almost throughout the day. I tend to tolerate during the day but have to usually take one tablet in the evening otherwise, I throw up almost everything I have eaten.
Is it harmful to the baby anyhow? Is there any other substitute for nausea?
Please do let me know.
Brief Answer:
No problem
Detailed Answer:
Hi, generally ginger also helps to reduce nausea. Try it with milk at night. There is no harm in taking your medicine also. Remember to get one NT scan at 12-13 week and anomaly scan around 20 weeks. Regards
