Pressure Felt In Groin Following Inguinal Recurrent Repair. Still After
Question: Pressure felt in groin following inguinal recurrent repair. Still after a week out from the operation. Have been getting more pronounced since I left the hospital where it is now stable. Scared it's a recurrence, but can't imagine how that would be. Seeing my surgeon next week for our 2 week post op meeting.
Brief Answer:
It is unlikely to be a recurrence
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to ask a doctor.
Thank you for the query.
I understand your concern.
I dont think there is much to be worried about
Unlikely it is recurrence.
Check for any local infection like severe pain, fever or pus discharge from wound (though very unlikely from your description).
increased mobility after discharge may cause some symptoms till wound and internal tissues heal.
Best wishes
Wish you a speedy recovery.

Hi Doctor, thank you for your prompt answer.
No fever, pus or severe pain thankfully unlike my first repair.
Has some penile & scrotum bruising which has improved.
This repair was an open one, previous one was laparoscopic. Also, the 2 surgeries were 3 months apart.
Would you say another for night would help or could be longer?

hello
Detailed Answer:
Extremely sorry for delay in replying.
Well open repair take some time for wound to heal and local symptoms pain/ discomfort would stay for longer duration (for a week longer may be ).
But overall looks nothing much to worry about.
Best wishes.

Thanks Doc.
I've also noticed it is solid/firm like a lump under the incision and lower down towards my scrotum.
Is this a healing ridge or something else?
Swelling overall is getting better though

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Mostly its healing phase of wound looks not to worry if there is no pain, fever, tenderness or pus discharge from the wound seen.
Worthwhile waiting for some time.
Best wishes.

Hi Doc,
I have noticed an increase in pain where my wound is. I changed my bandage yesterday (11 days post op) and notice the pain still there and rising. I have started taking pain meds again and am still doing my regular walks.
Is this a cause for concern?

Brief Answer:
Hello
Detailed Answer:
I understand your concern.
Check your temperature pulse regularly, if you have fever or raise pulse rate or there is wound discharge, redness, tenderness (severe pain on pressure) worthwhile visiting your doctor at earliest to look for local infection.
Stop regular walk mild help to relieve pain and help wound to heal early, can do upper torso exercises to reduce strain on wound.
Also if you are a diabetic check your sugars at home and ensure good control.
Hope this answers your query.
Wish you a speedy recovery.

Brief Answer:
hello sir
Detailed Answer:
Hi
sorry for misunderstanding what i meant was to stop exercises like walking and lower body / torso exercises.
However can continue with upper body or torso exercises like push ups etc which will not cause strain on the hernia wound.
Your follow up with surgeon will certainly help you.
Best wishes sir.
