Question: Need remedy for severe diarrhea caused by one time 7 one-half oral ingestion (adult) of Vit. C tablets. Thank you.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Let me assure you that excess ingestion of Vitamin C would not cause diarrhea. Diarrhea could be due to contaminated hands or could be due to some gastrointestinal infections. These infections are self correcting and unless there is bloody stool associated, treatment with antibiotics is not required. Irrespective of treatment it takes 3-7 days for relief. ORS (oral rehydration solution) is the mainstay of treatment. It may be taken 50-100ml/kg body weight over 4 hours depending on the hydration level. Thereafter it can be taken in lesser amounts.
