Question: Recent LSIL Pap smear. Colposcopy scheduled. Last Pap smear was 2 years ago and was normal. A note on the report said the computer couldn’t analyze it and had to be analyzed manually. I also may have a yeast infection and having a lot of discharge. The swap can back clean and having to get swapped again during colposcopy. How common are false positive Pap smears? Very nervous about possibility of HPV

Brief Answer:
False positive result of pap smear is rare.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
False positive pap smear is not common. The chances of having a false positive result on pap smear is less than 3 percent. If your earlier pap smear was normal then there is nothing to worry. White discharge due to yeast infection can cause mild inflammation of cervix that can be easily treated with medicines.
Hope this answers your question.
