Recently I Have Been Diagnosed With A Borderline Positive Homogeneous
Question: Recently I have been diagnosed with a borderline positive homogeneous ANA result and optic neuritis. So far my blood work has shown have vitamin D insufficiency borderline low MCH, MCV, and MCHC. All hepatitis screens are negative and my albumin via electrophoresis is borderline low. Borderline high platelet of 405, range is 140-400 for the lab. My vitamin B12 is >2000, way above lab range. My head, optic nerve and neck CT results have not been discussed with me yet and my next appt isn’t for another month. Should I be concerned? I’ve read excess Vitamin B12 not due to external supplements could be concerning.
Brief Answer:
Only a little bit concerned no need to panic.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for choosing "Ask A Doctor" service for your query,
Excess vitamin B12 is very rarely seen and in many of the cases is seen in patients with hepatobiliary disease however chronic inflammatory conditions in body may also result in high levels of vitamin B12 in some cases.
Most of the parameters in your CBC are some what below or above normal range which may be caused due to inflammatory condition you are suffering from.
As of now i would suggest you not to panic till you CT and optic nerve inflammation results are there.
My suggestion would be to go for a liver function test if its normal nothing needs to be done.
Only a little bit concerned no need to panic.

Is a CRP result of 7.8 coordinate with inflammation also?
Brief Answer:
follow up.
Detailed Answer:
Hello again,
No CRP level of 7.8 does not coordinate with inflammation but problem CRP is that its a old school test and sensitivity as well of as specificity of CRP is very low especially in todays world. So usually we use CRP in patients with arthritis or tuberculosis only these days.
Thanks!
follow up.
