Recently Had Bloodwork Done To Check For Deficiencies. These Three

-Vitamin B6 : 73.9 Reference range: 5.3 ug/L - 46.7 ug/L
-Vitamin C: <0.1 Reference Range: 0.4-2.0 mg/dL
-Folate (Folic Acid), Serum: >20.0 Reference Range: >3.0 ng/mL
-I take a daily multivitamin that contains 90mg which is 100% daily value. I also eat allot of vegetables and i have a fruit smoothie every morning (Kale, banana, berries) that gives me 49mg. I dont understand how my vitamin C can be so low.
-I eat mostly vegetables like cailiflower, broccoli and limit legumes and meat as i am trying to follow an anti inflamatory diet. What advice can you give to get these numbers in range? My cbc and all other functions are good. Just these things popped up when i asked to get my vitamin levels checked. Thank you
Strange about the vitamin C levels given your diets!
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this query.
You have no symptoms of vitamin C deficiency and your diet is more than enough to prove you receive adequate daily values. From the above, I will rather question the accuracy of this measurement.
For Folate and B6, you are good. There are no toxicity related to these vitamins and as such higher levels should not be of any concern to you. Being water soluble, they do not accumulate to toxic levels in blood.
In all, you are good. .Absence of signs and symptoms for vitamin C deficiency coupled with rich diet calls to question the accuracy with which it was done. I do not recommend a repeat and there is no reason to get worried. Other levels are consistent and pose no danger to health.
I hope this guides and helps. I wish you well. Feel free to follow up with me.

Referring doctor called today and told me to start taking 1000mg vitamin c capsule daily on top of what I already take. Then to repeat bloodwork in 1 month.
Does further increasing my vit c intake by this much sound good ?
And about how long would it take to show up in bloodwork if my levels are increasing or not?
-If I had absorption issues would my other vitamin levels be low also? Or could I potentially have an absorption problem with only vitamin c and if so, what Could it be?
Thank you.
Unlikely to have isolated vitamin C deficiency
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Unlikely to have isolated vitamin C absorption issues. Bruising easily comes with vitamin C deficiency, but a late sign and often associated with many other symptoms. Given how much I know about you and your diet, this is very unlikely.
There is no reported vitamin C toxicity I know of. Taking much would certainly not hurt you. My advice is that you go ahead to take as recommended and let us see what the repeat value would be in a months' time.
A month is sufficient to show any increases. However, am not worried about deficiencies at this time.
I hope these guides and helps. Am always available for further exchanges
