Sensitive Eyes, Dry Throat. Is My Bilirubin Levels In Normal Range?
Thanks for writing in.
By sensitive eyes needing artificial tears you mean you generally have dry eyes which get irritated early. Have you shown to a doctor?
Because, you may be having milder form of illness called keratoconjunctivitis sicca. Too much use of OTC artificial tears is not recommended in this case.
You have not mentioned the units with which bilirubin was measured. However the normal range when expressed as 0 to 20 umol/L is equivalent to 0.174 to 1.04 mg/dL.
Considering the normal range is expressed as mg per decilitres in your report, it is normal to have that much (0.68 total and 0.28 direct) bilirubin in your blood. Normal levels are
-Direct (also called conjugated) bilirubin: 0 to 0.3 mg/dL
- Total bilirubin: 0.3 to 1.9 mg/dL
Other biochemical tests that includes liver enzymes like
- Alanine transaminase (ALT)
- Aspartate transaminase (AST)
- Alkaline phosphatase (ALP)
- Gamma glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT) ought to be normal to reach the conclusion that liver biochemistry is normal.
Please review the values of these liver enzymes too.
Hope I have answered your query.
Good Wishes
