Severe Congestion Sore Throat Caused Does My Taste And Smell Will Return?
Question: Hello, I started having very bad congestion and phlegm late Thursday into Friday of last week. I had a very mild cough from the congestion. Saturday night I lost my taste and smell and tested positive for covid. Called the online doctor at Rush University Medical Center her prescribed lageviro. I have questions about the loss of taste and smell. If I can smell onions and very faintly smell my peppermint essentials oils, will my smell return I ate a half breaded steak sandwich last night and was able to taste a little of it. Also I can feel cold water when I drink it. I am very very stressed and have anxiety over this loss of taste and smell. I keep reading on the internet that my oflicatory nerves are damaged and I won't ever taste again. I won't be able to live if I can't taste or smell. Just want your thoughts that if I can slightly smell and taste is that a positive sign?
Brief Answer:
Loss of taste and smell isn't permanent
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
The loss of taste and smell are not permanent after covid.
They will come back gradually.
Smelling strong smells constantly will make olfactory nerve start working again.
I think the taste will come back gradually and fully.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Thanks.
