Severe Diarrhea For 36 Hours....shooting Pains In Upper Abdomen......taking Only
Question: Severe diarrhea for 36 hours....shooting pains in upper abdomen......taking only clear liquids except for small amount of steamed potatoes in the last 12 hours which resulted in diarrhea again. Which anti diarrheal medication would you suggest?

Fluids should be replaced first
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Due to severe Diarrhoea, there will be fluid and electrolyte loss. Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) sachets should be taken.
If the frequency is still increasing, I prefer admission and Intravenous fluids. This will replace the fluids in a short time.
Please avoid Milk and milk products for the time being.
Until the Diarrhoea is controlled, please do not take anything except fluids.
It could be due to contaminated food or water.
Pain abdomen can be due to Gut infection. In my patients, I generally prescribe Antibiotic like Rifaximine and a Pre and probiotics to my patients with similar complaints.
Please consult your doctor and get an appropriate prescription.
Not to worry. It should come down.
