Should Colchicine Be Discontinued While On Aspirin?
I had a heart attack about 6 weeks ago. So I have been given two stents. Doctors gave me Ticagrelor 90 mg tablet ,one tablet twice daily, in addition to one aspirin 100mg, to prevent from heart attack again. But after two weeks I found my big toe had a gout attack, then another big toe the same. From then up to now, my knees and ankles have the feeling of pain. I am afraid I will have more gout attack, which will make me suffer much, because I need to use colchicine to control the gout. And this will affect my already badly battered stomach ( from aspirin and Ticagrelor ). Will gout continue to occur during the 12 months while taking Ticagrelor ? Will bleeding highly occur ?
Thanks ?
Gout can be controlled
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for posting the question.
I have gone through your medical history in detail.
Unless you take colchicine, the gout will continue flaring up and cause more and more pain and swelling.
I would advice you to get serum uric acid levels checked first, and depending upon the levels, start on lowest possible dose of colchicine tablets.
To prevent side effects of colchicine, you can take the newer medicine-febuxostat which causes very less side effects and can be taken safely for longer periods of time.
Get your bleeding, clotting time and PT /INR done to adjust Ticagrelor dosage periodically. This will prevent the chances of high bleeding.
I hope the answer was useful.
Feel free to ask me any follow up queries that you may have.
Thank you.
Kind regards.
