Should Domstal Be Continued For Better Lactation Despite Experiencing Fatigue And Dizziness While On It?
So we shifted to ayurvedic medicines (Laptaden and lactonic granules) but that did not help. She came back to 20 ml and as days passed it went down to 5 ml. We have again gone back to Domstal.
My question is will this have any adverse effect on my wife health? Do you suggest we continue domstal for the baby's well being? Is there any way to reverse the side effects?
Continue with Domstal.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
The milk production is dependent on frequent suckling by the infant and will gradually improve or decrease according to that.
Other factors that are helpful in improving milk flow are ample rest, fluid intake in excess of 3 liters in a day, high protein diet and diets having Calories in excess some 600Calories over and above the daily energy expenditure.
Regarding the medicines, taking domstal is the best and safest way to increase the milk production. The side effects seen are minor and are reversible. All the side effects decrease after the medicine is stopped. She can again start with Domstal and increase her fluid intake.
I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
Wishing you good health.

1) We plan to give breast milk to the baby for 2 years. Should my wife continue with domstal for 2 years?
2) Also are you suggesting that when we stop domstal, the side effects stop and it wont be seen in the future?
3) What are your suggestions on starting solid foods to the baby doctor? When can we start and what should be given?
Details below.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
1. Your wife has very less milk production. She is not likely to continue the feeding after 8-10 months. The baby will need extra feed by then. She can continue Domstal for 5-6 months and after that, it is best to gradually decrease the dosage and stop Domstal.
2. Yes. The side effects of Domstal will not be seen in future.
3. You can start with solid foods after six months. This can include mashed fruit pulp, halwa, cerelac, rice, and dal, etc.
Hope my answer is helpful.

1) After C-Section delivery my wife complains of back pain. What do you suggest to ease out the pain?
2) My baby after having formula milk - spits out a lot? Is this something to be worried?
Calcium supplements can help.
Detailed Answer:
Back pain after a C- section is a common problem. It can happen due to a nerve injury or extreme stretching after the procedure. Most of the times this pain subsides within six months of childbirth without any treatment.
The pain can be relieved by doing a hot fomentation and applying a local analgesic gel along with taking regular calcium and vitamin D3 supplements.
The spitting out of milk can be due to inadequate burping after every feed. Sometimes the child can take 20-30 minutes to burp properly after a feed. Do XXXXXXX at the back and keep the baby on your shoulder till then.
