Question: I am a 46 year old female. For the past few months I have been experiencing irregular periods. I have missed a month in August. Followed by late periods. This past month my period came late (CD 38). It started very slowly spotting on first two days (i usually spot for one day rather than 2) and I am still bleeding on CD 7 although it has lightened up. Shouls I be concerned ablout my period lasting longer? What could be the cause?

Brief Answer:
It could be due to hormonal imbalance

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
I have gone through your history and understand your concerns.
As per your description these symptoms could be due to hormonal imbalance. (Perimenopausal stage)
But as you missed your period it could be an anovulatory cycle.
Get your pelvic ultrasound to see the endometrial thickness and other causes also.
Get your thyroid profile and hemoglobin test also.
For scanty period you can take high protein diet and lots of vegetables and fruits.
Usually Perimenopausal stage last 2-3yrs before achieving menopause ( complete absence of menses)
Usually menopause achieve between 45yrs to 55yrs.of age.
Hope found useful, feel free to ask more information.
Good luck

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
Yes,no need to worry about it, if period is longer than normal, it could be due to hormonal imbalance.
So no need to worry about it, but just to take care of your health and your Haemoglobin level.
