Should I Be Worried About The Constant Soreness Around The Knee After A Minor Injury In The Leg?

Question: My daughter 12 years old.
Injured her leg from upper mid shin to ankle from missing a box jump and grinding her shin down to her ankle.
She had minor scraping and bruising down the shin and some swelling in the ankle.
We had a sports ortho check her out and he said she looked like she’d be okay if she stayed off it for a few weeks.
It’s been a week and her ankle is getting better but she complains of soreness at outer knee and even into her thigh.
Could she have hit a nerve or tendon as she skinned her leg during the injury?
Could this be pain secondary to inflammation of a muscle, tendon or ligament?

Brief Answer:
Can be muscle sprain or soft tissue injury.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The soreness at the outer knee and into the thigh is likely to be related to a mild muscle strain in the area or due to pulled muscles due to the stress of the fall. This is not worrisome. Rest and keeping the leg raised on a pillow while resting will help in reducing the pain or swelling. She can have a mild pain killer also to decrease the inflammation. This is not likely to be a nerve or tendon related pain.
I hope this answers your query.
