Question: Hi doctor, I am a lactating mother and my periods are very irregular. I got my first period post delivery in a month and from then I did not get them naturally I used regestrone 5mg twice due to personal reasons and post that I got my periods now my daughter is 6 months old. Please suggest should I consult a gynecologist?
Brief Answer:
Maybe because of lactating
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
It is very common to have delayed or irregular periods especially during lactation.
It is very important to rule out pregnancy if you are sexually active and if not it is better to consult a gynecologist and either you can be on progesterone only oral contraception or insert the copper-T intrauterine device.
It is not advisable to take progesterone to induce periods without gynecologist checkup.
Hope I have answered your query.
