Brief Answer:
Please see the detailed answer below.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for the query on this platform. Using of birth control pills will depend on you and the purposes for which you want to take this medication.

Birth control pills contains both estrogen and progesterone or progesterone only that is used in the prevention of unwanted pregnancies from unprotected sexual intercourses and in the treatment of various menstrual problems like irregular periods, painful periods or heavy bleeding during periods, endometriosis, reduce the risks of developing ovarian cysts, acnes etc.

Again, you can use intrauterine device containing hormones and acts a contraceptive method for long use. Some intrauterine device (IUD) doesn't contain hormone.

You should provide more informations regarding the purposes using the birth control methods, then the appropriate method can be chosen for you. Again, you can use calendar methods too. So, the purposes of using birth control methods should be informed for choosing the best birth control method for you.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

My question is: should I start a new pack today, or is it too late to prevent unwanted pregnancy? I last had unprotected sex on Thursday and I don't know when I'll ovulate next. When can I expect to ovulate after my placebo pill week ended on Saturday, April 24th?

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for joining again. Your menstrual cycle starts on the first day of your period and persists up to the first day of your next menstrual period. Ovulation usually occurs 12-14 days prior to your next menstrual period starts. In general, ovulation occurs in the 4 days before or 4 days after your cycle's midpoint (midpoint is around day 14 of a regular 28 days cycle).

You are equally protected from any unwanted pregnancy throughout the month, even during your period week when you usually take the inactive pills or sugar pills, if you take your active pills for 21 days at a stretch without missing or skipping. People usually get their periods while taking the inactive pills for 7days. So, taking active pills for 21days without any break or miss, will protect you from the unwanted pregnancy for the next 7days, when you usually take the inactive pills or placebo pills.

So, don't be worried at all. You will not get pregnant from that sexual incident if you had taken your active pills correctly. On your scheduled time, start to take your new packet of birth control pills.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
