Should I Start A Thyroid Medication I Had A TSH Done By Itself And No T4 ?

default
Posted on 2 days ago
Question: I had a TSH done by itself and no T4 in March of this year. It was 7.16. Three years ago in March it was 2.33. My siblings had thyroid issues and were on levothyroxine after thyroidectomy surgery. Right now I have fatigue, hair loss all over my body, dry itchy skin, puffy face and occasional hoarseness. When should I get another lab done and should we be doing a T4 or other tests to show conclusiveness? Should I start a thyroid medication? Symptoms have been going on a year and more.
I can't find the terms and conditions they are talking about here.

Brief Answer:
You are having hypothyroidism possibly.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor's service.
I read your query and here is my advice.

You can do T3 ,T4 , TSH anti TPO tests to get evaluated. Also an ultrasound of thyroid may be needed to check it's consistency.
Taking count that your TSH is increased you possibly are having hypothyroidism and taking levothyroxine may be needed.
This sounds similar to you siblings history.

Hope I have answered the question.
