Should I Take Clindamycin Or Bactrim For The Cellulitis On

Question: Should I take clindamycin or bactrim for the cellulitis on my toe? I've never had either before and am worried about side effects because I have IBS and have already been on 3 different antibiotics in the past 6 months
Brief Answer:
Regarding oral antibiotics
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to ask a doctor service. I have gone through your query and noted your concern.
Bactrim (sulphamethoxazole and trimethoprim) is a better option if you do require to take oral antibiotics. It covers common pathogens which cause skin and soft tissue infections (SSTIs) and is less broad spectrum unlike oral clindamycin which may suppress bowel flora more profoundly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you need any more assistance.

Should I be worried about an allergic reaction to the Bactrim? Just because I’ve never taken a sulfa drug before. Are there warning signs I should look out for? Is taking Bactrim with food the best way to lower the chance of stomach upset?
Brief Answer:
Regarding oral antibiotics
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Idiosyncratic reactions cannot be predicted. They can happen to any drug. Cutaneous symptoms like itching and rash are early signs of such a reaction. You may take it after meals. Bactrim anyways rarely upsets bowel, if at all. Take care
