default
Posted on Sat, 6 Sep 2014
Question: Hello doctor. I am in 12th week of pregnancy from today. I have taken dating scan & other reports. Doctor said that everything is normal. I would need to travel to my home town next week (start of my 13th Week) which will be 260 Km and need to come back after 3-4 days. Is the travel feasible now? Which mode of travel would be preferable? Train/Volvo bus/Car ?

Brief Answer:
Yes you can travel if necessary.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
Traveling should be ideally avoided during pregnancy to prevent any complications like pain and bleeding.
However, if it is really necessary, then TRAIN journey or journey by Car is QUITE SAFE in the 13th week of pregnancy because of less jerks and comfort. So, you can travel by any of these if your pregnancy is NORMAL with fine health.

During travel, you can follow some general measures like:

- Better to prefer lower seat as much as possible.

- Try to complete most of the journey in lying either supine or lateral positions.

- Prefer homemade food, AVOID eating food supplied in train and spicy/ fatty one.

- Before traveling better to consult with your GYNECOLOGIST once for check up and take care of high altitude problem (if you are going to Hill Station Area)

- Take regular tablets (IRON, CALCIUM etc), diet etc in time during traveling also.

Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.

Thank you Doctor. Since its a one week gap to travel, I have left with an option of hiring a car to proceed with this 4-5 hours travel. Hope this is fine. My health is normal not faced any specific problem yet. May be feeling tired at times. i am working and used to go to office by bus (though 5-10minutes) and walking for more than 45mins daily for work. I guess i can able to manage.this is the situation
