Should I Get Surgery For Drooping Eyelid Of One Eye?

Question: Hello, I have I drooping eyelid on one eye. It started around 5 years ago. Should I get surgery or is there any other alternative treatment for my case. Im only 21. I saw the Bremenn Clinical strenght upper eyelid lift on the web? Can it help? So, Please tell me all the options because I don't relly want to go under the knife. Can upper eyelid exercice can help?

Just to mention.. I had botox injection 6 months ago on both eyelids(upper and lower) both eyes because I couldn't stop my eyelids from blink(spams) wich had no effect at all. Now is better due to pills(Baclofen) and relaxation.

I am Dr. Dadapeer K, an ophthalmologist and I answer health problems related to eye.

I reviewed your history and the photos attached with the question.

These photos show mild drooping of the left upper eyelid. This condition is called as ptosis.
As mentioned by you in the history since it is there for around 5 years, this rules out any of the medical causes and this requires treatment by surgery. Since this looks like simple and mild ptosis this can be corrected by simple surgery which involves resection of one of the muscle of the eyelid.

Botox injection taken 6 months back usually will not influence this.

Hence surgery is required for this condition and this can be corrected by simple surgery and this surgery will not leave any scar, hence no need to be worried about the surgery.

How long it will take to see the difference after surgery?I mean does My eyelid will get back to normal right after surgery? Does my eyelid with ptosis will be identical to the normal eye? Only the eye with ptosis will need surgery?
Does the surgery will last for the rest of my life?
After the surgery, How many days it wil take to start living again..working doing everythinh I want?
Also, Am I going to feel like something When I gonna blink my eye with ptosis after surgery?l

I reviewed your history.

It will take 2-3 weeks following surgery to see the difference and the eye lid will become normal after surgery.

Only the eye with ptosis requires surgery.

The results of the surgery are permanent.

After surgery rest is required for 1-2 weeks and after that you can resume your works.
The ptosis surgery will not make any difference while blinking.

Hello Doctor, I said that I have a ptosis on the right eye since five years, but five years ago It was not really a ptosis just one eye with double eyelid(ptosis today) and one with a smaler double eyelid bigger than today because I was thinner. So, Could it be , because of the Botox I received 5-6months ago because You said usally it will not afect the ptosis. What if it did something to my eyelid and now It is a ptosis....I saw that you can buy a kind of eye drop and It can lift the eyelid from 2-3 mm and it can cure the ptosis after many weeks ... Its called Aproclonidine (Iopidine) So what do you thing could it help my case because my eyelid is clearly lower than before the botox. If it is the botox that cause that What treatment do you suggest and will work the best.

I reviewed your history.
Since you have mentioned that ptosis in left eye is present for almost 5 years this is unlikley to be caused by botox injection.

Aproclonidine is a sympathomimetic drugs and this can be used in case of sympathetic paralysis as in Horners syndrome or following botox injection to treat the ptosis.

You can test that by application of one drop of the Apraclonidine eye drops and if there is improvement in ptosis it confirms the diagnosis of sympathetic paralysis.

Hence you can consult your doctor for this simple test and treatment accordingly.
