Should One Continue To Take Amoxicillin Despite Experiencing Itching After The Second Dosage?
Question: My 20 year old daughter had her tonsils out yesterday, and was prescribed Amoxicillin prophylactically. She became itchy following the second dose. There is no rash. Should I continue to give her the Amoxicillin? She gets agitated when she takes Benadryl, so I gave her cetirazine.
Brief Answer:
Yes, continue with amoxicillin.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I can understand your concern.
Yes, continue with amoxicillin.
Itching can be due to viral infection or amoxicillin allergy.
Cetrizine is good drug for such itching.
Since rashes are not there, no need to stop amoxicillin.
Please let me know
1. Is she having allergies?
2. Is she having any known drug allergies in the past?
