Should Progesterone Supplements Be Continued During 12 Weeks Of Pregnancy?
Question: Hi Dr XXXXXXX
My wife completed 12 weeks of pregnancy. The 12 weeks ultrasound scan went well and everything is normal. She had 3 miscarriages earlier and she has been taking progesterone supplements. Does she need to continue taking progesterone supplements until late in the pregnancy ? We are concerned about any negative impacts of stopping progesterone.
Thanks,
XXXX

Brief Answer:
Can stop progesterone and continue aspirin
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing..
I understand your concern..
Dont worry.. Since you are already 12 weeks, you can stop progesterone tablet and continue with aspirin tablets.. After 12 weeks placenta produces progesterone necessary to support pregnancy..
In case she get pain abdomen or spotting, then only she needs to continue progesterone tablet..
Dont worry about the previous miscarriages as it was all prior to 3 months.. But she should take adequate rest and avoid heavy exercises..
Hope I have answered your query.. Feel free to ask any doubts.. Good day..
