Should The Ointment Be Applied On Top Of The Foreskin?

Question: Hi, i have been recently prescribed betamethasone for phimosis. My question is how do i apply this steroid on my penis?. This is what i understood from doctor’s instruction. Stretch the fore skin as much as possible, in may case in flaccid position i am able to stretch completely until foreskin meets the lower end of the shaft. After that i apply the ointment on the portion that is exposed after the fore skin is retracted that includes glans, shaft underneath fore skin, head etc. i massage the ointment for 2 mnts and then pull back the skin to its normal position. Am i doing it right. My concern is, is it ok to apply the ointment underneath the foreskin, because that area looks delicates showing all the nerves. Or should the ointment be applied on top of the foreskin and not under it.

Brief Answer:
The oinment is for the foreskin

Detailed Answer:
Hi B,

The steroid should be applied to the foreskin which causes the narrowing, not the glans. If you can pull the foreskin all the way back over the glans, then the question is if you really have phimosis?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks doctor, in flaccid position i don't have problem retracting. But when erect it is not retracting normally/easily. Also, should the foreskin always retract till the boot root of shaft. Or is it enough if it retracts just below glans

I am still confused how to apply on foreskin. Should i apply at the tip and then pull back or apply on the outer layer of penis

Brief Answer:
Apply on foreskin

Detailed Answer:
Hi again,

You should pull the foreskin back and apply the cream to the area with narrowing, not the glans. The idea is that the cream will make the narrow part of the foreskin more elastic.

Does it make sense?
