I read your query and here is my advice.

Vancomycin can give black tarry stools. It is a rare side effect of vancomycin and its incidence is unknown.

Dear Dr. Olgeta Xhufka ,

Thank you so much for your prompt reply.
I recently had a colonscopy which showed that I have inflammation in my colon but not chronic inflammation.(Colitis).Then I did a stool sample test and it showed that I have C Difficile, for which I am now taking Vancomycin.
But I have now soft dark brown stools. Is this a side effect of the Vancomycin?
I do not have any stomach pain or gastrointestinal ulcers.

Sincerely, XXXXXXX Junka

Brief Answer:
Vancomycin is probably causing it.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear XXXXXXX ,thank you for asking again. Inflammation if the colon doesn't cause black tarry stools . The fact that you aren't having stomach pain and that you don't have medical history of stomach or intestinal ulcers means that the black stools aren't caused by bleeding from gastrointestinal tract.
I believe that the black tarry stools are caused by vancomycin usage.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dear Dr. Olgeta Xhufka,

They are caused by the Vancomycin. The dark brown stools last night turned into diarrhea for 3 hours so I STOPPED the Vancomycin after one week of being on this drug. Today, much better no more diarrhea but I know that I must get rid of the c difficile and which other medication do you recommend that I could try to use now to rid myself of this C difficile.

Sincerely, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Probably you have treated it.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear XXXXXXX thank you for asking again.
Vancomycin can be used for 8 to 14 days for clostridium difficile.
You used it for a week, seven days and you can take it for one more day to complete 8 days treatment.
Do a stool test for clostridium difficile a week after finishing treatment.
Let's hope you would get cured. If not you can try metronidazole.
