Sore Throat, Headache, Found Chunky Mucus/phlegm With Blood. Taking Ibuprofen, Non-pyrine. Any Ideas ?
Question: sore throat, headache, no cough, no flu, found chunky mucus/phlegm with blood this morning, fever last two days that come and go.
I'm was prescribed ibuprofen and non-pyrine preparation for cold syndrom and have been taking them for the last two days.

The symptoms you mention appear to be due to viral infection.
A viral infection presents with above typical symptoms and are due to irritation in the throat due to pharyngitis.Also a viral infection reduces the local immunity and make the mucous membranes of the throat and lungs prone for secondary bacterial infections.
Well , there are no specific antivirals for such an illness but care has to be taken to avoid secondary bacterial infections which present with severe symptoms and make you more sick.
Do gargle with antiseptic solutions like CHLORHEXIDINE , this will provide relief from the sore throat and also prevents infections in near future.
Do continue the medications you are on they are specific and help you get relieved from the symptoms.
