Suffering From Cold With Ear Pain And Fever
Acute Otitis Media following an Upper Respiratory Tract Infection.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
1. This is most likely Acute Otitis Media (AOM) following an Upper Respiratory Tract Infection (URTI), which is very commonly seen.
2. An anti-allergy medication, such as cetirizine 10 mg, or fexofenadine 120 mg once a day for 5 days along with a mucolytic medication such as ambroxol if there are a lot of nasal mucus secretions. Paracetamol is to be taken as required for the fever. Nasal decongestion drops such as xylometazoline or oxymetazoline will be helpful. All this should be available OTC (Over The Counter).
3. Adequate rest, regular steam inhalation a bland diet, and hydration are recommended for an early recovery.
4. Avoid flying. Keep the ear dry.
5. If your symptoms persist or any new symptom develops, kindly get examined by a local doctor or follow up here. Your local specialist can rule out external ear infections/ earwax build-up and assess the severity and type of fever / URTI.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards.
