Question: My daughter keeps my grandchildren in their rooms for 3 days, except for meals, with no toys, books or TV. This seems too harsh to me and possibly psychologically damaging. They are 8 and 10.
This action is taken as a punishment for telling a lie or misbehaving.

I totally agree with you, its too harsh a punishment to children.
It is definitely psychologically damaging to the mental growth of children.
It amounts to child abuse.
Being a caring and understanding grandparents it becomes your responsibility to take appropriate steps for further prevention
1. Speak to your daughter: Let her know such action and behavior towards children is unacceptable
2. Report it to local child right enforcement agency: If there is no change in behavior of your daughter, in the interest of your grand children it becomes important to report such issues to the child right enforcement agency. You can also involve your local Pediatrician.
