Question: My daughter keeps my grandchildren in their rooms for 3 days, except for meals, with no toys, books or TV. This seems too harsh to me and possibly psychologically damaging. They are 8 and 10. This action is taken as a punishment for telling a lie or misbehaving.

It is definitely psychologically damaging to the mental growth of children. It amounts to child abuse. Being a caring and understanding grandparents it becomes your responsibility to take appropriate steps for further prevention 1. Speak to your daughter: Let her know such action and behavior towards children is unacceptable 2. Report it to local child right enforcement agency: If there is no change in behavior of your daughter, in the interest of your grand children it becomes important to report such issues to the child right enforcement agency.
