Question: I have a medical history of diabetes, hypothyroid, chronic heart disease, angina, and chronic constipation. I am now on Medicare supplemental insurance plan. I take Lantus insulin 130u splitting the dose between am and pm. However now I cannot afford to get the Lantus. It will cost >$500 a month. Is there a way I can control my glucose levels holistically

Brief Answer:
Sorry to say no

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Noted the contents of your query. Thanks for writing. In view of the fact that you are on treatment for a variety of health conditions including diabetes and also due to the fact that the control of diabetes has an effect on others I would strongly advise you not to change course. Diabetes is to be managed with diet, exercise and medications which are all complementary to each other. I understand Lantus is expensive. Would you please enquire if there are local bodies who would sponsor part of your care? Cutting down medicines may not be a good idea after all. Take care. Warm regards.
