Suggest Alternative Medication For Pexep Taken For Depression

Switch to sertraline.
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to HCM.
I can understand your concerns.
Pexep can affect the development of baby. So, pregnancy should possibly be avoided with Pexep.
Ideally, during pregnancy, only those drugs to be taken which are absolutely necessary.
There are other antidepressants which you can use and which are relatively safer during pregnancy. I would suggest sertraline for such case. It is safe than Pexep in pregnancy.
You can gradually reduce the dose of Pexep and start with sertraline simultaneously, building up its dose. Till you the reach the dose which is effective for you depression, you can continue with that dose.
It may take some time, around 1-2 months, for you to stabilise on sertraline and stop pexep. You should best avoid pregnancy till then.
As your depression relapses after stopping the drug, you will have to take the treatment for long. I cannot comment on the exact duration but it may not be necessary for life time.
Kindly discuss this strategy with your doctor and proceed further under his guidance.
Feel free to ask for more queries.
Wish you well.
Thanks.

Starting dose is 25mg
Detailed Answer:
As I mentioned earlier, NO drug is 100% safe in pregnancy.
While prescribing in pregnancy, we consider the risk:benefit ratio. As the pregnancy involves lots of physical and emotional stress and hormonal changes, there are high chances that depression can worsen in pregnancy if not well treated.
So, the treatment should be continued.
The antidepressant considered safest in pregnancy is sertraline. Therefore, I recommend it's use for you if you conceive.
The starting dose of sertraline is 25mg. The dose can be gradually increased depending on the response under your doctor's supervision.
Hope this answers your query satisfactorily.
Take care.
Thanks.
