Suggest Alternative Medication In Place Of Potassium Citrate

default
Posted on Fri, 5 Aug 2016
Question: I am taking potassium citrate 1080 mg (generic version of Urocrit K10)for prevention of kidney stones. I recently had to changed my insurance company and the price for the 90 day supply doubled. Is there another cheaper form of this formula that I can take that can serve the same function? FYI - I also take 50 mg daily of HTZ for the same purpose of preventing stones.

Brief Answer:
Upsher-Smith pharma,Cydus pharma USA

Detailed Answer:
Hello there

Thanks for asking to Healthcaremagic

I found two pharmaceuticals making the drug potassium citrate. However no specific brand names..

1) Upsher-Smith(labeler)10 MEQ --1080 mg extended release
Tablet Imprint side 1 --- USL
Tablet Imprint side 2 --- 071

2) Cydus(labeler)10MEQ --1080mg extended release
Tablet Imprint side 1 --- 537

If you don't find the above,I advise you to find below brands

1)Cytra-2 oral suspension
2)Virtrate -2 oral suspension
Both contains 500 mg sodium citrate + 334 mg citric acid / 5 ml..

You can consume twice daily 5 ml of solution after mixing in a glass of water or as advised by your treating doctor. This too serves the purpose of Urocit k10( potassium citrate) I.e prevent kidney stones, infection etc

And cost wise is cheap upto my knowledge.

Hope this helps.

Take care
