Suggest Alternative Medicines For Quadriplegia
Question: My son, age 46, automobile accident has left him as a quadriplegic. He cannot speak, but brilliant, using a communication board(spelling each word). He does move his legs, and one arm(slightly). He is able to stand, with help. He has been on Baclofen for the past nine years. I feel that this Baclofen is not helping his tone. Is there any other natural alternative to this medication? Does Baclofen cause depression?
Brief Answer:
Baclofen can cause depression
Detailed Answer:
Hello. I have been through your question and understand your concern.
I suppose you son is receiving baclofen because of spasticity which is muscle stiffness. If it is not efficient anymore you can talk to your GP about changing into tinazidine or clonidine. Unfortunately there are no real natural alternatives that have a proven track record of helping with spasticity.
Baclofen can cause depression but this possibility is less than 1%.
Hope this helps. Please feel free for further questions.
