Question: my son is having high fever since today afternoon. we have not taken him to doctor yet. we have been giving Meftal-P to him every 4 hour. but temperature is not coming down. is there any other medicine I can give him till we go to doctor tomorrow morniny
Brief Answer:
Likely to be a viral infection. No other medicine needed urgently.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on Health Care Magic.
Most often children suffer from viral infections where antibiotics are ineffective and all you need to do is to give Meftal P to bring down the temperature. The dose should be 7.5mg/kg/dose. Please check if correct dose is being administered.
Also give tepid sponging. If the child has cough, give steam inhalation as well as some antiallergic like Cetirizine. Nothing else needs to be given.
Please try to be patient. The fever usually resolves in 5-7 days. If apprehensive you can definitely visit a doctor.
Feel free to write back.
