Suggest An Alternative For Diprovate
Psoriasis of face
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic
I am Dr. Kakkar. I have gone through your query. I also answered a previous XXXXXXX free forum query regarding the same issue.
Dear sir, Diprovate G contains a superpotent topical steroid i.e betamethasone dipropionate in combination with a topical antibiotic i.e gentamycin.
It should never be used on face. The potent steroid present in this cream can have serious side effects like photosensitivity, skin thinning and atrophy, acne etc.
I would suggest that if the skin condition on your face was indeed diagnosed as psoriasis by a dermatologist, you may use either tacrolimus 0.03% ointment twice daily for the patches Or a less potent steroid e.g fluticasone propionate (Flutivate cream), twice daily. Tacrolimus is absolutely safe and is recommended for use on facial psoriasis.
You may also upload a photograph of the patches on face and get a second opinion from me regarding the diagnosis and appropriate treatment. For that you need to go to the reports section and upload a photograph Or you may mail the photograph at YYYY@YYYY with the subject line as "Attention Dr. Kakkar". Once you post the photographs I would be able to see them and guide you better.
However, the ingredients present in diprovate - G are also present in Sternon-G cream, marketed by palsons drugs in XXXXXXX It should be avoided on face.

Fungal infection/ Tinea Faciei
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
-I have gone through the images.
-This is not psoriasis.
-This actually looks like fungal infection to me. Dry scaly patches on the cheeks and forehead. Must be itchy. It can be confirmed by getting a lab test e.g KOH wet mount preparation for fungal elements. Diprovate-g that you had used in the past, may have provided some relief from itching but it would never cure it. This being a fungal infection, the patches would spread further if you keep using diprovate-G or similar products (steroids).
-I would rather suggest you to use a topical antifungal e.g terbinafine cream (Sebifin cream), twice daily X 1 month.
-An oral antifungal e,g terbinafine 250 mg once daily (tab sebifin 250 mg) once daily X 1 month is also advisable.
-An OTC oral antihistamine e.g cetrizine 10 mg once daily in the evening would provide you symptomatic relief from itching.
