Suggest An Alternative To Prenan Formula Milk

Question: Hello Dr,

We are blessed with TWINs baby boy on 1st July 2014 and now weight for both the babies are around 2.5 KG each.
Currently we are feeding then PRENAN powder apart from mothers milk.
because of twins mothers milk is not sufficient to fill babies requirements. Can we start COW milk to both babies?

Please advise if their is any other alternate or need to change the PRENAN to some other milk powder.
if PRENAN is only for Premature babies then please suggest another powder.

Hi...I congratulate on the twins.

I will definitely suggest you about the feeding of both your twins. But before that I need to know a few points -
1. What was the mode of delivery - caesarean or normal delivery.
2. Did both of them cry immediately at birth?
3. Were they hospitalized at anytime till now?
4. I would like to know the exact reason why you want to change over to cows milk? Any problem with Prenan?

Suggestions -
1. You can change over to Dexolac Special care. Mix the powder according to the instructions on the pack.
2. You can as well try cow milk, but without diluting it and as such if they develop diarrhea you may need to stop it. But scientifically the contents in all milk powders and the cow milk are one and the same - scientifically.
3. Both their weight gain is excellent as i know the birth weights from your previous questions (initial 10 days are not to be counted as the baby's lose 10% weight and then gain back)

Kindly get back to me with the above points which i asked and I would suggest your the needful.

Hello Dr,

Thanks for the information provided!

1. What was the mode of delivery - caesarean or normal delivery.
NORMAL
2. Did both of them cry immediately at birth?
YES
3. Were they hospitalized at anytime till now?
For 1st 2 days both babies were under observation because of TWINS and may be less waight. As per concerned Dr. there were nothing abnormal things found.

4. I would like to know the exact reason why you want to change over to cows milk? Any problem with Prenan?

No problem with PRENAN just wanted to check how long we will have to keep PRENAN powder dose. And if there option of COW milk then we thought of swtching from PRENAN to COW milk.

Plz. confirm/advise so that we can either continue PRENAN or shall we start COW milk.

You can change over to cows milk. NO harm. But if they start getting diarrhea or if the weight gain is not appropriate or if there is blood in the stool.....kindly get back to us or your pediatrician.

But one thing is - your kids are adjusted and gaining weight well with Prenan.
