Suggest Before Surgery Want To Go For Nerve Biopsy Test Or MRI Neugrography Whole Body

Question: Hi sir, I am suffering from peripheral neuropathy from long years (22 years).Nerve pain radiates from foot bottom to groin areas and then to the head. No headache but itching on head is there. I am facing walking problems and sleeping disorders. Long back I got sexual infections. Syphilis was diagnosed and I have treated well. But I got another infection which was diagnosed. Peripheral and autonomic nerve itchiness also came. Recently I was diagnosed with disc bulge l4,l5. Since four years I am suffering from low back pain. My csf test results was normal. I requested doctor for nerve biopsy test. But he told me ,it is not necessary. He suggested microscopic disc replacement surgery. I am suffering from diabetes from seven years and bp from three years. I was prepared for that surgery. But before that I want to go for nerve biopsy test or MRI NEUROGRAPHY WHOLE BODY. Can you please suggest? Thank you sir

Based on the facts and reports that you have posted you seem to have Neuropathinc symptoms in lower limb due to compression of spinal cord and Nerve roots caused by pressure due to buldging of intervertebral disc at L4-L5 level..This is entirely due to mechanical pressure caused by buldging of disc and is notdue to any pathology of nerves .Hence there is absolutely no need to do nerve biopsy at all .

The decompressive Discoidectomy either Endoscopic or by an Open surgery will releive preesure effect on spinal cord and nerve roots and make your life pain free .

This is a routine surgery and gives outstanding results to improve quality of life .

Dear sir, I am suffering from peripheral neuropathy and also autonomic neuropathy since 22 years.I got sexual infection which was undiagnosed. Is rectal or urethral infections can enter lumbar or spine ? At that time I don’t have low back pain. Can you please suggest diagnostic tests considering my above mentioned history? Thank you sir

I am suspecting nerve infection,infection in spine or in bulged discs.

Thanks for follow up. Since you have this issue since long time consult qualified Neurologist for clinical assessment. He will decide need for tests like EMG test, Sweat test or Autonomic reflex screen test .to study damage and conduction studies required to assess nerve damage.

Taking drugs like Gabapentin and Pregabalin will help to get relief to alleviate the neuropathic pain.
