Suggest Beneficial Variety Of Good Bacteria For Digestion

Posted on Fri, 10 Apr 2015
Question: I've been reading about probiotics recently and I had a question. If there is such a big variety of these bacteria are there some of these good bacteria that are more beneficial than others? To rephrase, of all the good bacteria are some better than others? I read that they influence your cravings for certain foods but I'm not sure if that's true or not.

Brief Answer:
Probiotic strains are specific to different functions

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
What you have been reading is correct. The trick is to know which species to use for what effect and in what dosage. Also, most varieties need to be refrigerated or they can make you ill. They are not recommended for individuals with weakened immune systems.

However, that said, the probiotics found in yogurt are good for digestion and replenishing the gut after antibiotic therapy. People with short-bowel therapy should also not use probiotics.

There is preliminary evidence that lactobacillus acidophillus may lower cholesterol. Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG strain taken by women during late pregnancy and early lactation may reduce atopic eczema in newborns. So, yes, these are a couple of examples of how differing strains of probiotics may have differing effects.

Dosages range from 1 billion to 10 billion viable cells daily.

I hope I have answered your question. New research is coming out on a rapid basis.
