Question: I have chronic back pain due to degenerative disc disease. Right now, what I am concerned with is weight gain. I spend most days in bed on my back and would love to be able to move; but, that is not possible. What kind of diet can I follow that will help me not only move my bowels daily; but, also, lose a few pounds a month?

Brief Answer:
Diet and alternative exercise

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome and thanks for your query.
I understand your concern.
Diet is the main tool to help you lose weight as you are not able to exercise as you were doing before. Diet should have plenty of green leafy vegetables as they are low in calories and rich in fibre and provide good bulk. You should drink at least 8 to 12 glasses of water. Avoid sodas and justices as they are loaded with calories.
If you are able to move around and able to go to a swimming pool or facility that teaches exercise in water, it would be a good way to exercise. Similarly you can do exercises like dumbbells and muscle strengthening exercises to help you lose weight and gain strength.
