Suggest Dosage For Meftal And Calpol

My son, age 4+ and weight is 16kg, has had fever for the last 24 hrs. Cold and cough is visible. And fever is going as high as 104.3. Crocin ds (4.5ml) was given but didn't work to bring down fever. Then we gave meftal P (6ml) and fever became normal-99 for 7 hrs and then shot back up again. Gave meftal again after those 7hrs.
My questions are:
- is the gap of 7 hours enough to repeat meftal?
- is calpol an alternative for high fever incase it rises before the meftal acceptable gap is over? Since crocin wasn't working.
Thank you, XXXXXXX
You can give meftal 8 hourly
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for asking on this platform
I can understand your concern. The most common cause of fever with cold and cough is some viral infection.
Fever is an important symptom of viral upper respiratory tract infection.
Paracetamol is a very safe medicine for fever and I would recommend you to give him paracetamol 6 hourly.Tepid sponging also helps in bringing down the temperature.
If fever does not respond to these measures, you can give meftal p (mefenemic acid).Mefenemic acid is more efficacious in controlling the fever.
You can give meftal at an interval of 8 hours.
In viral infection fever may persist for 3-4 days.If fever persists for more than 3-4 days then get evaluated by a physician to rule out bacterial infection.
Please let me know if you have any more query.
Wishing for your child's speedy recovery.
