Suggest Dosage For Morphine In An Elderly Person
Question: Recovering from Lung Cancer and Kidney Neuropathy, just now in remission for Kidney. Left lung 1 yr. and fight remission 4 Yrs, Put on 25 mg. Fentanyl 25 mg. 4 yrs ago for severe pain, kidney stones, Chemo, and Vascular disease, have Raynold's causes severe leg and foot pain. Also taken Tramadol ocassional 1/2 5o Mg. Take Alprazolam 0.5 usually 1 at night and morning.Thurs taken off patch and started Morphine 15 Mg. morning and night. No effect what so ever, sick and pain unbearable. Took Morphine at 6 A.M. yesterday Morning and 1/2 tramadol at noon. helped pain Afraid of pills and can't reach Dr. Took Morphine at 6 P.M. last night 1/2 alprazolam at midnight. Took 1/2 Tramadol at 5 this morning, have not taken Morphine. Safe to take Morphine later? 71 yrs old, 5 Ft. tall weight 100. Take Synthroid, 5 Mg. Killed thyroid with radioactive Iodine 30 yrs ago, Lisinopril 5 Mg.,treatment for high B.P. plus Kidney treatment after Chemo. Coumadin 5 Mg. 50,00000 units Vit D weekly.2 O2 24/7 Calcitriol weekly with Vit D. Copd.

with everything there is at least a small concern about how your system handles drugs of any sort. a three, even a six hour variation on the morphine just isn't going to change anything. It is a relatively low dose. It has generally a considerable safety range. It's a bit less with age, small size, elderly, on other sedatives (tramadol and xanax) and there is the theoretic effects from the other conditions. It's almost never that there are effects on the clearance of morphine. Liver failure needs to be severe, kidney failure doesn't matter, very few drugs affect morphine. The 15 mg dose is one of the smaller ones and I believe it is the long acting?
Frankly with my blood pressure pill I shifted everything 2 hrs yesterday when I was late with it, then shifted everything back to usual the next day.
Unlikley to be bad. There is a wide safety margin. Signs of it being too much are being very sleepy. Very. Sleepy. or it isn't doing anything bad.
Long term, if you get a rescue naloxone pen then even if there were a disaster you would be able to rescue from it (this is not likely at all in this circumstance).
